THIS IS A HYPERBOLA

16x^2-9y^2-64x-54y-161=0

i need to find half each length vertical and horizontal and the focal length

Let me just get you started. You need to rewrite this and put it into a standard form from which you can read off most of the information you need. To do that, you need to "complete the square":

So, 16x^2-64x=16(x^2-4x)=16(x^2-4x+4)-16*4

and

-9y^2-54y=-9(y^2+6y)=-9(y^2+6y+9)-9*9

Use this to rewrite and put into standard form. It is just a lot or writing after you have done "completing the square."
